KOOTENAI YOUTH RECREATIONAL ORGANIZATION
K.Y.R.O exists to provide and promote life-long recreational and entertainment activities for all members of the North Idaho community. It strives to make available youth and family recreational opportunities which are cost effective and accessible to all economic classes in the North Idaho region. The Kootenai Youth Recreation Organization was established in the Spring of 2000 to save North Idaho’s only ice skating facility from permanently closing. KYRO, a non-profit 501 (c) (3) corporation, is currently fulfilling its mission and more! Not only has KYRO kept the ice facility operating, in September of 2004, KYRO purchased the ice rink and surrounding land. For further info. visit their website at: www.kyro.org

GPA SUMMER NEWSLETTER July 3, 2008
From The Principal: Now that I’ve spent my first full month here at Genesis things are starting to come into focus. I am indebted to several people for their help in this time of transition, but especially Shella Brearley, who continues to serve selflessly during her “summer vacation.” Cathy Hillman and Brianne Ball have provided office support, Deb Givens has been my “budget mentor,” and John Givens has been instrumental in leading our board and speaking at our recent parent information meetings. Many others have chipped in, including the “Julies” (Grunzweig and Wilhem) and a growing number of “athletic boosters” whose names shall be withheld for recognition at a later time.
While there is great excitement over new classes, new enrollments, new staff and new program features, I realize that the administrative transition at the end of the school year still creates a sense of loss and uncertainty for many of our parents and students. Firstly, I want to say that each of us is unique in how we process life’s unexpected changes – i.e. some move faster than others, some move slower. My hope is that all members of our school family will respect and support one another as we adjust and move forward together in the coming months. Secondly, though I greatly value stability in a school community, some changes in our program are inevitable. Please know that our mission has not changed, but the manner in which we pursue it may be slightly different. This will require flexibility and patience from each of us. Let me assure you, however, that we will always maintain a high value for the individual needs and concerns of each of our students. Finally, I want all of our parents to know that my door, as well as my heart, will always be open to them. I am here to serve you and your children. Whether it be questions, concerns or problems, please know that I am available to discuss whatever is important to you. Through my years of serving in schools and churches I have found that Ephesians 4:25 is the best way to maintain and grow healthy relationships: “Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor, for we are all members of one body.” Having this non-defensive posture of openness and honesty will contribute to further growing an effective educational program that honors our Lord. Looking forward to growing together with you as the Genesis family, Marc Goodwin
New Website: We hope you’ll visit our new and improved website (www.genesisprep.org). Rather than describe it to you, our hope is that you’ll go and experience it yourself! SAT 9 Testing Results: We will soon be mailing the Stanford Achievement Test Results to all our families -- any questions can be directed to Marc at the school office. July Parent Information Meetings: Please pass on to your friends and others who may be interested that there are two more parent information meetings scheduled this month -- July 13th and 27th (both Sundays) at RLM 1 from 5:00 - 6:30 p.m. More details are on the website.
Report Card Revisions: Some of our families have questioned grades that were issued on their student's recent report card. It seems that there were some transcribing errors in one of our classes that affected our middle school students. If you have contacted the school about this, please know we are busy at work reissuing the report cards with the corrected grade. If you suspect an error and have not yet reported it, please call our office so we may investigate and take corrective action. We apologize for our mistakes and appreciate your patience as we address them. Enrollment Update: It is an understatement to say that we have been busy with new enrollments this summer! Our current number of students who have paid their deposit or who have given us a solid verbal commitment is 82. We have about 30-40 more who have expressed interest or are “in process.” Our hope is that we will have around 120 students when the school year begins in September. Please pray with us as we continue to seek the Lord for His guidance and to trust Him in building our school community -- “we plant and water while He provides the growth” (1Cor 3:6-7). Staff Update: We are excited to announce the recent addition of several new staff members to Genesis! Mrs. Gail Ballard and Ms. Jane Henry will be teaching our lower elementary grades (1-4) this next year. On the high school level we are welcoming both Mrs. Leticia Goodwin (wife of our principal) and Ms. Shannon Granger. Mrs. Goodwin will be teaching Spanish language and Ms. Granger's specialties are Math and Science. Don't forget to check the website for all teacher assignments and bios! School Lunches: Many of our families have inquired about the status of school lunches for next year. We are happy to share that Mr. Nicholls will be overseeing food service and hot lunches every day of the week – Monday through Thursday – for a nominal cost. More information will be coming soon. School Library: As many of our returning families are aware, we began the process of creating a school library this past year. It’s a big project and many hands make light work! If you have books to donate, or would like to assist in its development and maintenance, please contact Julie Wilhelm (773-3050). Family Orientation Day: Please mark your calendars for Sunday, Aug 24th, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. as we hold our annual Family Orientation Day. This event is for both new and returning families and plays an important role in a successful launch of the new school year. We will have lots of fun, various team-building activities, group prayer and some sharing of key information that affects all our students. School Calendar: With all the new activity surrounding this season of transition we have not yet published our school calendar for next year. However, it will be finalized in the next few weeks – please check the school website where you will be able to download it.
